What does Allergy – Child panel measure?
The Allergy Child Panel measures IgG antibodies to Cow Milk, Soyabean, Peanut, Almond, Coconut, Cocoa, Wheat, Cod Fish, Egg White, Corn, Cat dander, Dog Dander, Dermatophagoides farinae, Aspergillus fumigatus, Rice, Potato, Bermuda grass, Cockroach along with Total IgE in children.
What to expect during Allergy – Child panel test?
This test requires a blood sample. A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer.
What are the normal level of Allergy – Child panel?
Negative: < 0.1 KUA/L
Positive: => 0.1 KUA/L
What if Allergy – Child panel results are Present/ Absent?
Detection of IgE antibodies indicates an increased likelihood of allergy to the 18 allergens viz. Cow Milk, Soyabean, Peanut, Almond, Coconut, Cocoa, Wheat, Cod Fish, Egg White, Corn, Cat dander, Dog Dander, Dermatophagoides farinae, Aspergillus fumigatus, Rice, Potato, Bermuda grass, Cockroach that may be responsible for eliciting signs and symptoms.
A negative result indicates that the symptoms are not due to the 18 allergens and other differential diagnoses must be considered.
Who should get a Allergy Child Panel done?
Allergy Child Panel should be done if the child is showing symptoms like
- Hives or welts
- Flushed skin or rash
- Face, tongue, or lip swelling
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea
- Difficulty breathing
- Sneezing
- A runny or blocked nose
- Red, itchy, watery eyes
- Wheezing and coughing
- Worsening of asthma or eczema symptoms
Children are found to be most allergic to allergens including foods, food groups and environmental allergens. These are known to possibly cause problems with allergic reactions possibly up to 90% of the time.
The Allergy Child Panel is used for a rapid biological diagnosis of food allergy in children. The test includes a mixture of 18 allergens viz. Cow Milk, Soyabean, Peanut, Almond, Coconut, Cocoa, Wheat, Cod Fish, Egg White, Corn, Cat dander, Dog Dander, Dermatophagoides farinae, Aspergillus fumigatus, Rice, Potato, Bermuda grass, and Cockroach along with Total IgE test.
