PUO Profile is used to detect the IgM Antibodies to Dengue, Leptospira, Brucella, EBV infections apart from Aerobic & Anaerobic Blood Culture test.

This test requires a blood sample. A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer.

Dengue IgM

Positive result indicates the presence of detectable Dengue Virus IgM antibodies which indicates exposure to the dengue virus or the patient is currently infected with dengue virus infections.

Further tests are required to differentiate between primary and secondary infections.

Leptospira Ig M

Detection of leptospira IgM antibodies may indicate a recent infection or recent exposure to antigens (vaccine).

Negative result does not rule out the infection.

Brucella antibodies IgM

Rising titres of antibodies are regarded as serological evidence of recent infection. In the acute stage of the disease there is an initial production of IgM antibodies, followed closely by production of IgG antibodies.

Definitive diagnosis is usually by blood culture or PCR.

EBVIgM antibody

High titres indicate a positive result which shows the presence or exposure to EBV infections.

Further tests and clinical correlation is recommended for definitive diagnosis.
